Dr Sowmiyaa Puru, is a Melbourne local. She graduated in 2012 and became a Fellow of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2019. She has a Diploma in Child Health from University of Sydney.
She returned to Melbourne in 2019 after finishing her training at various locations across Australia. She completed her residency years in rural Victoria where she gained variety of experience in different fields of medicine including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Peadiatrics, Psychiatry, Intensive Care and Surgery. Following which she worked as an Obstetrics & Gynecology registrar at Rockhampton Hospital and her GP training years were spent in Townsville, Queensland. She enjoys medical education and looks forward to supervising GP registrars and medical students at Berwick Healthcare.
She is currently pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynecology with The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She is accredited as a Shared care Maternity Affiliate in a collaborative arrangement to provide shared pregnancy care for women booked to birth at Monash Health.
Dr Puru is a passionate Family Physician who enjoys all aspects of General Practice with special interest in Women’s Health (Shared Pregnancy Care, Menstrual management, Sexual health, Family Planning including Mirena, Implanon - Insertion & Removal, MTOP), Paediatrics, Chronic Disease, Travel Medicine, Skin Excisions and Mental Health.
